How To Keep Your Lloyd Loom Furniture In Great Condition

Known for its distinctive woven paper construction and timeless style, Lloyd Loom pieces have graced living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, gardens, and conservatories for over a century. But like all furniture, a little tender loving care and ongoing cleaning and maintenance goes a long way in keeping your Lloyd Loom furniture looking its best.

When you have invested in Lloyd Loom furniture, you of course want it to last for as long as possible, and whilst we know that wear and tear from usage is always going to happen, there are many things you can do on a regular basis that will really help to keep your furniture looking great.

When it comes to taking care of your Lloyd Loom furniture, here are some points and actions we recommend.

Gentle Dusting is Key

The beauty of Lloyd Loom lies in its intricate weave. However, this same weave can trap dust and debris over time which is why regular dusting is essential to prevent dirt build-up and maintain the furniture’s fresh look.

For light dusting invest in a soft-bristled brush specifically designed for furniture. Gently brush the weave, following its contours to remove surface dust. A microfibre cloth can also be used for a final polish.

For a deeper clean and to remove dust from Lloyd Loom furniture use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment that will remove dust and debris from the loom. Just remember to be very gentle and only use a very soft accessory brush, else you could end up scratching the loom or removing some of the paint from the coloured versions of this product.

Cleaning With Water

To clean Lloyd Loom furniture, we recommend that you use a weak solution of a household washing up liquid in warm water, on a soft (non-abrasive) sponge and dab dry using a soft cloth.

For any difficult marks, then you can use a soft toothbrush with a weak solution of a household washing up liquid in warm water and dab dry using a soft cloth. Do not use anything other than a soft brush for this, as once again you could scratch or damage the loom.

It is important to not use too much water and to dry your product correctly, as our indoor products are not made of the same loom as the outdoor, which means if you do not dry them effectively then this can cause damage to the loom and therefore the furniture. So if you are going to wash the furniture, use little amounts of warm water mixed with washing up liquid and dry immediately once you have finished.

Spot Cleaning Spills and Stains Promptly

Accidents happen, especially with furniture that you sit on when eating or drinking. The key is to address spills and stains promptly to prevent them from setting in.

For everyday spills: Blot up any excess liquid with a clean, absorbent cloth. Don’t rub, as this can spread the stain.

For a deeper clean:  Prepare a gentle cleaning solution using lukewarm water and a few drops of mild washing-up liquid. Remember, a little goes a long time! Dip a clean sponge into the solution, wring it out thoroughly to avoid soaking the furniture, and gently dab the stain. Rinse the cleaning solution off with a clean damp cloth and allow the area to air dry completely.

Things You Must Avoid!

Harsh Chemicals:  Stay clear of abrasive cleaning products, bleach, or ammonia. These can damage the paper and lead to discolouration. Only ever use warm water and washing up liquid as we mentioned before, as cleaning products could damage the loom.

Direct Sunlight: While Lloyd Loom furniture can grace your conservatory, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause the paper to fade.  Consider strategic placement or using curtains for shade during peak sun hours.

Water And The Wet: Our indoor Lloyd Loom furniture is not designed for periods outdoors, especially in the wet British weather. Keep it indoors. If you have outdoor Lloyd Loom pieces, bring them inside during heavy rain or snow as even though our outdoor range is more durable, the more you can protect it from severe weather, the better.

Loving Your Lloyd Loom for Generations

With a little care and attention, your Lloyd Loom furniture can become a treasured heirloom passed down through generations.  By following these simple tips and also making sure you avoid making the mistakes others have made, you can ensure your Lloyd Loom pieces continue to bring elegance and comfort to your British home for years to come.

You have invested a lot of money into owning something amazing like Lloyd Loom, so if you can keep it clean and well looked after, you really will have something to cherish for many years and even generations to come!
